The Annals of the University of Bucharest, Philosophical series, is a scholarly double blind peer reviewed journal. The journal publishes articles considered of relevance for those interested in the field of philosophy and is addressed both to the Romanian and international philosophical community, with a special accent on East- and Central-European area.
The Annals of the University of Bucharest, Philosophical series, is devoted to the exploration of different topics of Philosophy.

PHILOSOPHY IN THE ANNALS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BUCHAREST
(1952 [1957] – 2011)
– a short history –
The journal Annals of the University of Bucharest was born from Journal of “C. I. Parhon” and Polytechnic of Bucharest, launched in 1952. Within the first two years, three numbers of the journal C. I. Parhon were issued from the “Natural Sciences Series”. The third number, issued in 1953, contained the first philosophy-related article: Aram Frenkian, “Studies of Sumero-Akkadian, Egyptian and Greek mathematics” (pp.9-20). In the third year (1954) the first number from the “Social Sciences Series” was launched, containing articles on Marxism-Leninism, Logic, Psychology, Legal Sciences and Philology. In 1955 an independent Journal of the University “C. I. Parhon” was launched and in the fourth number from the “Social Sciences Series” a number of sections would appear: Dialectical Materialism, Marxism-Leninism, Political Economy, Psychology and Pedagogy.
From 1957, when the journal is renamed Annals of the University “C. I .Parhon”1, starting with the 8th number, within the Social Sciences Series, small, independent sections, which were both numbered and clearly specialized on Philosophy were issued, next to the ones dedicated to “Philology”, “Legal Sciences” and “History”. Until 1964, when the sections were no longer numbered, the numbers of the journal dedicated to Philosophy – also containing articles on Sociology, Psychology, Cybernetics and Pedagogy – were: number 12 (1960), numbers 21-22 (1961-1962) and number 29 (1963).
From 1964 the Annals were issued without the numbering of the sections, and the ones concerning Philosophy were issued one section per year. After 1969 the name “Social Sciences” is dropped and, until 1973, two numbers per year are named Annals of The University of Bucharest, Philosophy. Within its content, between 1965-1969 there were specialized headings on: Philosophy (1965-1969), Political Economy (1965, 1967, 1968), Psychology (1965-1968), Pedagogy (1965-1968), Problems on Physical Education (1966), The Theory of the Media (1967-1969), Logic (1968), Sociology (1968), Scientific Socialism (1968), Methodology (1968), History of Philosophy (1969), History of the social-political thought (1969).
The editing committee, the authors and all the teachers and professors from the Faculty of Philosophy dedicated the numbers from 1972 and their “entire scientific, academic and educational activity” to the National Conference of the Party and to the 25th celebration of the Republic. In the 2nd number of 1973 the conferences dedicated to Tercentenary Dimitrie Cantemir were published. Between 1974-1976 a merging of several domains took place – Philosophy, History and Law – and every year a number of the Annals of the University of Bucharest. Philosophy. History. Law. would be issued.
Starting with 1977, the Philosophy series resumed its annual independent publication. In 1977 and 1978, after the section dedicated to ideological articles, a number of specialized sections appeared: History of Philosophy Studies (1977), Problems of logic and philosophy of science (1978), The Movement of ideas (1978), Research in Psychology and Pedagogy (1978). In 1979 the mentioning of headings in the content was dropped, although there could still be distinguished, next to the programmatic articles for “creating the multicultural developed socialist society and promoting Romania towards communism”, others studies and conferences on: Logic and philosophy of Science, History of Philosophy, Romanian Philosophy, Ethics, Esthetics, Philosophy of Culture and axiology, Political Philosophy, Economy, Psychology, Pedagogy, Journalism. In 1979 the design of the cover page also changed, remaining the same up to this day.
After 1990, Annals of the University of Bucharest freed itself from the ideological chains of Marxism. After the year of 2000, anniversary and thematic volumes were launched, such as: “Benedetto Croce (1866 – 1952) in 2002, “Ludwig Wittgenstein – 50 years from the publishing of Philosophical Investigations” in 2003, Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) in 2004, Bertrand Russell – 100 years from the publishing of the article <<On Denoting>> in 2005, “John Stuart Mill – 1806 – 2006”, in 2006.
Summarily, from 2008, several specialized sections were published: Logic and philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy and computers, Political philosophy, Esthetics and the theory of art, History of Philosophy, Ethics and Moral Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, Romanian Philosophy. In 2011 two volumes of the Annals, Philosophy Series, were published, the first of which was dedicated to the work of Emil Cioran.
Throughout the years different members were part of the Editing Committee: Tudor Bugnariu (second managing editor between 1959 – 1969, managing editor between 1963-1973), Alexandru Boboc (managing editor between 1972-1973; 1977-1981; 1958-1994), Gheorghe Cazan (managing editor between 1988-1989), Adrian Miroiu (chief editor in 1995), Valentin Mureşan (chief editor between 1996-1999), Marin Bălan (chief editor between 2001-2010). Today the chief editor is Viorel Vizureanu.
Honorary present members: Radu J. Within the Annals of the University of Bucharest also appeared, with a philosohical profile, the „Acta Logica” and „Esthetics” series.
The „Acta Logica” was launched between 1958-1971, one issue per year. Members of the Editing Committee were: Athanasie Joja (managing editor), Grigore C. Moisil (second managing editor), M. Neculce, Florea Ţuţugan, Radu Stoichiţă, Mircea Constantinescu. A special number of this series was issued in 1969 (number 12), which contained the papers presented during the International Conference, that took place in Braşov between 26th of August and 2nd of September 1969.
The “Esthethics” of the Annals of the University of Bucharest was launched between 1968 and 1973. Members from the Editing Committee: Marcel Breazu, Ion Ianoşi, Gheorghe Achiţei, Gheorghe Stroia, Cezar Radu.
